PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal complex having excellent stability, exhibiting excellent activity as a redox catalyst and containing a ligand comprising a Schiff salt-type ring compound having a plurality of transition metal atoms at the center, and a compound useful as the ligand.

SOLUTION: The ring compound is represented by compounds of formulas shown in the drawing, and is useful as the ligand of the metal complex.
