PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of managing so as to clear a target value in relation to a reduction of printing cost.

SOLUTION: Every predetermined time period is set by a manager. The printer periodically performs a recommended print mode setting process (S102) that updates a recommended print mode which is adapted to reduce printing costs as compared with printing costs at a time when printing is performed by a reference printing mode and is recommended to a user on the basis of a comparison result between a target value relating to the reduction of the printing costs and the actual result value.
