PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melanogenesis inhibitor having excellent safety and stability and high melanogenesis inhibiting action, and a skin care preparation or a cosmetic product, especially a skin care preparation or cosmetic product for skin whitening use containing the inhibitor. SOLUTION: The melanogenesis inhibitor contains a solvent extract of a mycelium or fruit body of Pleurotus eryngii belonging to genus Pleurotus, family Pleurotaceae. The skin care preparation or the cosmetic product, especially the skin care preparation or the cosmetic product for skin whitening use containing the inhibitor has excellent stability and safety, exhibits melanogenesis inhibiting action and gives high skin whitening effect.
