PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce an effect of a load on a specific process caused by an operation mode of a network interface. SOLUTION: In a device for controlling the network interface used for controlling a mode of the network interface operable in modes including a promiscuous mode for receiving all packets, a filter mode for selecting a packet to be received using part of a network address, and a normal reception mode for receiving a packet to itself, a packet to multicast, and a packet to broadcast, when instructions for causing the network interface to transit to the promiscuous mode are issued, the operation mode of the network interface is caused to transit to the promiscuous mode unless a specific process is in operation, and the operation mode is caused to transit to the filter mode when the specific process is in operation.
