PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing an active carbon which utilizes the alkali activation and which can achieve a high specific surface area without the increase of the usage amount of the alkaline activator. SOLUTION: The method of producing active carbon comprises steps of performing elution treatment of carbide with an organic solvent and a step of alkaline-activating resultant solid residues.
