PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical image reading apparatus which can reduce the number of light sources and reduce the size of a light source device. SOLUTION: The optical image reading apparatus has the light source device including: a color filter unit having several transmission filters each of which transmits only light in a wavelength band different from others and which are arranged periodically side by side; a liquid crystal panel including several color areas, each of which having the same superficial measure as the transmission filters, which are arranged side by side at corresponding positions, as viewed from the incident side of the light and through which the transmission state of light is controlled; a white light source which has a medium to be detected irradiated with a light from the side of the liquid crystal panel through the color filter unit; and a liquid crystal part voltage applying circuit which switches each of the color areas of the transmission filters to the transmitting state or the reflecting state.
