PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a first and second electrode from showing unintended behaviors and to prevent feedthrough. SOLUTION: An electro-optical device includes: an electro-optical element 13 comprising the first electrode 131 and second electrode 132; a first switching element (SW101) provided between a first data line supplied with a data potential in a first period and the first electrode; a second switching element (SW102) provided between a second data line supplied with a data potential in a second period and the second data electrode; and a scanning line 3 for supplying control signals commanding changes between ON states and OFF states of the first and second switching elements to those first and second switching elements. When planarly viewing a substrate, the second electrode is formed at least partially overlapping with the scanning line, and the first electrode is formed at least so as not to cover the overall width of the scanning line.
