PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescence temperature sensor and its failure determination method for demarcating/identifying a failed region when the fluorescence temperature sensor is failed. SOLUTION: The fluorescence temperature sensor 1 has: a fluorescent element 4 for generating a fluorescence by an excitation light; a light emitting section 10 for turning on a light source, and emitting the excitation light to the fluorescent element 4; a light receiving section 12 for receiving the fluorescence from the fluorescent element 4; an optical fiber 5 for guiding the light among the light emitting section 10, the light receiving section 12 and the fluorescent element 4; and a processing section 13 for calculating a temperature of a to-be-measured object based on the quantity of the light received by the light receiving section 12. The processing section 13 compares the quantity of the light received by the light receiving section 12 with a threshold value preset in response to an operation state of the light emitting section 10, and determines a failure in the fluorescence temperature sensor 1.
