A waterproof and breathable sole (10) for shoes is disclosed. The sole includes a lower layer (12) with large hole(s) (13). There is a mesh (15) which overlaps the large hole (13), placed above the lower layer (12). A membrane (18) which is impermeable to water and permeable to water vapour is arranged above the mesh (15) and over the hole (13). The membrane (18) is sealed, to the sole, around the perimeter of the sole, to avoid liquids seeping through. A perforated upper layer (20) is arranged above the membrane (18). The lower layer (12) is overmoulded onto the mesh (15) and partially incorporates it. At the hole, the lower layer includes a tread (14), and transverse elements that are rigidly coupled to the mesh to form a grid.
