<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater of high energy-saving performance and convenience, capable of detecting presence or absence of a person taking a bath in a bathroom with high accuracy, and property supplying hot water to a bathtub or heating the same on the basis of a result of the detection. <P>SOLUTION: This water heater includes a bathroom remote controller 9 having operating functions such as hot water supply to the bathtub and heating, and an infrared ray human sensor 8 detecting the presence or absence of the person in the bathroom, the infrared ray human sensor 8 has a sensing section 15 detecting the infrared ray radiated from a human body, and a lens section 16 covering the sensing section 15 and made of an infrared-transparent material, and a housing 9a of the bathroom remote controller 9 is made of a material different from that of the lens section 16.
