PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an agitator capable of enlarging a tank volume with a simple structure and decreasing a size of a non-stirring area as much as possible under the condition that a widthwise dimension is particularly limited. SOLUTION: The agitator includes a plurality of rotary shafts 2a and 2b vertically arranged in an agitator tank 1, and stirring blades 3a and 3b mounted at the lower ends of the rotary shafts 2a and 2b respectively and rotating along the bottom surface of the agitator tank 1. The rotary shafts 2a and 2b are arranged so that the rotary areas of the stirring blades 3a and 3b of the adjoining rotary shafts partly overlap with each other on a plane. The bottom surface of the agitator tank 1 has a large area bottom surface portion A<SB>1</SB>approximately equal to the whole rotary area of the stirring blade 3a of the rotary shaft 2a of the adjoining rotary shafts, and a small area bottom surface portion A<SB>2</SB>approximately equal to the size obtained by subtracting the overlap portion from the whole rotary area of the stirring blade 3b of another rotary shaft 2b.
