PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer device, wherein an influence of variation in pressure contact force when paper is caught, is made relatively small to prevent displacement of an endless belt by preliminarily adjusting grasping force of the endless belt according to thickness of the paper, and also to provide an image forming apparatus with the same. SOLUTION: An intermediate transfer belt unit 60 is provided with: an intermediate transfer belt 61; four roller pairs consisting of intermediate transfer rollers 64 and photoreceptor drums 22; and a control part 50. Three intermediate transfer rollers 64 which transfer cyan, magenta, yellow toner images to the intermediate transfer belt 61 are supported to be displaced to a first predetermined position for grasping the intermediate transfer belt 61 and a second predetermined position for separating the intermediate transfer belt 61. The control part 50 displaces the three intermediate transfer rollers 64 to the first or second predetermined position according to the thickness of the paper to be fed by a paper feed part 40.
