PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a melting/reducing method which efficiently burns a fuel supplied to a powder-heating burner and reduces a molten metal while efficiently heating raw particulate grains in the burner flame. SOLUTION: In the melting/reducing method of heating the raw particulate grains with the burner flame of the powder-heating burner 1 and obtaining the molten metal by reducing melted raw particulate grains, an oxygen fuel ratio G/F calculated from an oxygen-gas supply velocity G (Nm<SP>3</SP>/min) and a fuel supply velocity F (Nm<SP>3</SP>/min) for the powder heating burner satisfies 1.0≤(G/F)/(G/F)<SB>st</SB>≤5.0.
