PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain detailed information of a geological formation including an object emitting weak fluorescence at the bottom of the sea by using an illuminating light emitted on the water or in the water. SOLUTION: A lidar device 10 is suitable for taking the image of the fluorescence from an object 50 especially existing at the bottom of the sea. A first photomultiplier (light detection unit) 15 detects the scattering light returned from the object 50 and a second photomultiplier (light detection unit) 16 also detects the fluorescence returned from the object 50 with high sensitivity. In this lidar device 10, the depth of the object 50 is calculated only from the output of the first photomultiplier 15. The exposure timing of a camera 22 is set by a control unit 11 based on the second peak in the output of the second photomultiplier 16. COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT
