The circuit (50) has two power transistors (26, 52), where an operative barrier layer surface of one of the power transistors is smaller than an effective barrier layer surface of the other power transistor. A reference voltage connection (84) of two sample and hold circuits and/or a gate or a base terminal (88) of the former power transistor is attached to a voltage stabilizer. Two connections are provided for controlling the two sample and hold circuits. A measuring transistor and a differential amplifier (48) are provided in the circuit. An independent claim is also included for a method for measuring a load current that flows through a circuit breaker.
