PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice coil motor (VCM) with a flat coil. SOLUTION: The VCM includes a set of magnetic sensing elements; a lens carrier physically connected to the set of magnetic sensing elements for placing a lens; a pedestal; a set of printed circuit boards (PCB) fixed onto the pedestal; and a flat coil formed on a patterned metal layer on the set of PCB so as to face the magnetic sensing elements.
