PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting tool with both of wear resistance and high slidability, changing no properties, even if the cutting tool is worn by continuous cutting. SOLUTION: In this cutting tool, a metal layer of a thickness of 1 to 3μm as a whole is constituted by alternately laminating a TiAIN layer 12 having large hardness and a CrN layer 13 having excellent slidability with a thickness of≥1/20 and≤1/3 of a surface roughness of a base material on a surface of the base material 11 having the surface roughness of 500 to 2,000Å. When the surface is worn, the TiAIN layer 12 and the CrN layer 13 simultaneously appear on the surface, and thereby high wear resistance and slidability can be simultaneously obtained and the same states and performance as those at an initial stage can be maintained, even if wear progresses.
