The method involves releasing a fixing part between a load (5) and an actuating unit during driving an actuating unit from a transport position by freely driving the load. The load is transported to a plane (7.2) without using the actuating unit to perform a quenching process, where the plane is moved to a quenching bath section (3.1) of a quenching chamber (3). The load is arranged in the bath section in an idle position. Operating cycle is newly started by loading another load on another plane (7.1) moving perpendicular towards a heating chamber (2). An independent claim is also included for a device for loading and unloading an industrial furnace.
