Provided is an isolated or recombinant polynucleotide that comprises a nucleotide sequence encoding a polypeptide, wherein said polypeptide has glyphosate-N-acetyltransferase activity and comprises an amino acid sequence that shares at least 93% sequence identity with a specified synthetic sequence. Further provided are corresponding transgenic plants expressing the polypeptide and methods of growing such plants.
