IMAGE RECONSTRUCTOR

A method and apparatus to reconstruct a sharp image from multiple phase diverse intermediate images is described. The degree of defocus of all intermediate images is unknown, but the diversity defocus is known. Images can be processed real-time because of intrinsically non- iterative algorithms. Such an apparatus is insensitive to defocus and can be included in imaging systems for extended depth of field (EDF) imaging, range finding and 3D-imaging. Additionally, wave-front sensors can be constructed by processing sub-areas of images. Applications include digital imaging, distance, speed and direction measurement and wave-front sensing, which function can be combined with the camera function.
