<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus that extends service life of device parts by preventing unnecessary returns from the power saving mode, and reduce unnecessary power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus having a plurality of electric power modes including an power saving mode and a normal mode that are different in state for supplying electric power in the apparatus, includes: a power source control unit that operates in the power saving mode and switches an electric power mode when detecting a trigger; a human body detection unit arranged so as to detect a human body that approaches the apparatus in order to input the trigger; and a second human body detection unit arranged so as to detect a human body that approaches the apparatus for other purposes than the input of trigger. The power source control unit sets the normal mode from the power saving mode when the human body detection unit detects the human body and when the second human body detection unit does not detect the human body.
