PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for evaluating a hardness/softness of a blood vessel which is capable of evaluating the hardness/softness of the blood vessel by a simple method. SOLUTION: The device for evaluating the hardness/softness of a vascular wall includes detecting means 1 for detecting a pulsation wave propagated through an artery in one portion of a living organism, conversion means 21 for converting the pulsation wave corresponding to one beat of a heart into a frequency component in every time, out of the pulsation waves detected by the detecting means, means 22 for identifying a first peak by a reflected wave appearing before a II sound closing an aortic valve, after the maximum peak by an ejection wave in accompaniment to contraction of the heart, out of the converted frequency wave components, or a second peak appearing in an intermediate time point between the maximum peak and the first peak, and means 23 for evaluating the hardness/softness of the vascular wall, by comparing a peak intensity of the first peak with a peak intensity of the second peak, or by comparing the peak intensity of the first peak or the second peak with a reference value.
