The method involves determining a temporal change of a distance (r) of an object by a radar arrangement (RA), and an intensity modulation of a received signal. Information about an object height (ht) of the object is derived from characteristics of the intensity modulation over a reciprocal distance of the object and/or over a quotient of a radar height (hr) and the distance of the object by a reflecting surface. The radar height is determined from an installation height of the arrangement at a vehicle body and an actually determined spring path between the body and a chassis of a vehicle (F).
