A power converter capable of cooling an inverter (2) in a housing (8A) to a predetermined temperature by the rotational operation of a plurality of cooling fans (26) in the housing (8A) is provided with a failure detection means for detecting a current flowing through driver circuits of the cooling fans (26) in operation and outputting a failure detection signal when the current value detected falls below the reference value, a temperature detector (15) for detecting the temperature in the housing (8A), and an operation controller (16) for continuing the operation of the inverter (2) without stopping the operation thereof if the detection temperature detected by the temperature detector (15) exceeds a first determination temperature of required setting lifetime for each main commodity arranged in the housing (8A), the detection temperature detected by the temperature detector (15) is not more than a second determination temperature which is the highest service limit temperature with respect to each main commodity arranged in the housing (8A), and there is a sound cooling fan out of the cooling fans (26). |
