The plate (10) has holding elements (16, 18) arranged against one another along a longitudinal direction (L) of the plate and on opposite sides of an elongated gas generator (12) e.g. seat belt tightener, in a circumferential direction of the generator. One of the holding elements presses the generator against the other holding element and a third holding element (24). The third element is provided with a holding unit e.g. pin or screw. The former element includes projections resting against the generator. The generator has a radially rotating recess (28), in which the elements are engaged. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a gas generator of a vehicle occupant restraint system in a holding plate.
