<p>A multi chip, aluminium titanium nitride coated, metal cutting band saw blade for cutting a metal work piece comprises a number of cutting teeth 12 that define the cutting direction a of the band saw blade, with the cutting direction transverse to the feed direction of the band saw blade. The teeth 12 are arranged in a repeating pattern of groups of successive teeth 12, where each group includes a lead tooth with a number of trailing teeth. Each tooth 12 comprises a laterally extending cutting surface 30 that extends for a height from the central plane of the band saw blade and faces the cutting direction of the band saw blade, and primary and secondary clearance surfaces 32, 34 that define an acute angle to the upper surface 18 of the band saw, where the acute angle defined by the secondary clearance surface 34 is greater than the acute angle defined by the primary clearance surface 32. The laterally extending cutting surface 32 of the first tooth 12 extends substantially normally from the central plane of the band saw blade for a first height H1. The laterally extending cutting surface of the second tooth extends at an acute angle to the plane CP of the laterally extending cutting surface of the first tooth for a second height. The laterally extending cutting surface of the third tooth extends at an acute angle to the plane CP of the laterally extending cutting surface of the first tooth for a third height but in the opposite direction to the laterally extending cutting surface of the second tooth. This allows the first tooth to make a first cut cutting a first chip in the metal work piece, the second tooth to make a second cut cutting a second chip on one side of the first cut in the work piece, and the third tooth to make a third cut cutting a third chip on the other side of the first cut in the work piece. This arrangement of the laterally extending cutting surfaces 30 of the teeth makes the load on the band saw teeth more balanced and extends the cutting life of the bandsaw.
