PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processor capable of storing a value of a register without providing a another debugging register for holding the value of the register in the processor. SOLUTION: The processor includes: a setting register 52a setting a mode; general-purpose registers 10 each including a preferred slot SL1 used at a scalar operation and slots SL2-SL4 not used at the scalar operation; a selector 52b selecting data of a register designated by the mode set in the setting register 52a at the scalar operation and outputting them; and an arithmetic unit 51 executing the scalar operation by the use of the preferred slot SL1 of the general-purpose register 10, and storing arithmetic result data of the scalar operation into the preferred slot SL1 of the general-purpose register 10.
