650,754. Reservoir pens. COMPANIA URUGUAYA DE FOMENTO INDUSTRIAL SOC. ANON. Feb. 12, 1946, Nos. 4399 and 4400. [Class 146 (iii)] In a reservoir pen, e.g. ball-tip pen, comprising an ink reservoir and a writing tip separable from one another, the reservoir has a mouth which registers with a fine feed-duct in the tip when the parts are connected, and is provided at the mouth with a capillary device 2, Fig. 4, which by capillary action holds the ink at the mouth of the reservoir when the parts are separated but allows the ink to flow when the parts are connected. The inner end of the duct in the writing tip may contain a similar capillary member 12, Fig. 5, to prevent the duct from being emptied. The member 2 or 12 may consist for example of a core of light alloy or plastic providing a capillary annulus 5 or 15 between itself and the enlarged mouth of the reservoir or tip. Alternatively it may comprise a length of foil coiled in helical form, or a core of porous material such as wick, felt, porous plastic or sintered material. A filter may be provided in either or both components to prevent air bubbles reaching the ink duct and may consist of a perforated tube 18, 21 in the reservoir and tip respectively. The holes 20 may be covered by an interior or exterior sleeve of gauze or fine fabric, or may be replaced by a gauze area. Alternatively, the tubes or areas thereof may be formed of porous material. As shown, the reservoir consists of rubber sac 16 enclosed in an outer sheath 10 vented at 17 and both carried by a nipple 1 in the outlet of which the member 2 is mounted. Specifications 602,101 and 650,804 are referred to. According to the second Provisional Specification, the filter may consist of a perforated disc or of gauze or fine fabric.
