摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform HW resource allocation that has been carried out only once during POST (power-on-self-test), both in a pre-boot environment in which a driver on a BIOS (basic input/out system) and an option ROM is operated, and in an OS (operating system) environment in an OS boot and OS operating state, in a computer system. <P>SOLUTION: The BIOS has an ACPI (advanced configuration and power interface) for notifying an OS of information for using an extended IO (input/output) space, and initializes a chipset and a PCI (peripheral component interconnect) card. The BIOS starts the option ROM in the PCI card to control the PCI card in the pre-boot environment. The chipset is an LSI group that constitutes hardware (HW), and switches between 1KB and 4KB modes by setting a PCI configuration space. The option ROM controls the PCI card via a pre-boot service.
