PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that satisfactorily projects an image, without making one an observer of a projected image feel dazzle. SOLUTION: The projector includes: a projecting section 26 that, with a housing placed on a placing surface, projects an image onto the placing surface; a person detecting section 38 that detects a person present in an upper area of the optical path of the projected image used for projecting an image by use of the projecting section; and a projection control section 34 that, based on information regarding the position of the person detected by the person detecting section, changes the luminance of the light projected from the projecting section.
