PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simply-structured automatic analyzer and a method for inhibiting a temperature rise of a liquid sample thereof, capable of easily inhibiting the temperature rise of the liquid sample when agitating the liquid sample by sound waves generated by a sound wave generation means. SOLUTION: The automatic analyzer and the method for inhibiting the temperature rise of the liquid sample thereof analyzing a specimen based on optical characteristics of a reaction liquid of the specimen and a reagent, includes a cuvette wheel holding a plurality of reaction vessels into which the liquid sample containing the specimen and the reagent is dispensed, and surface acoustic wave elements agitating the liquid sample by the acoustic waves. The automatic analyzer is provided with cooling water holding sections 6b holding cooling water for cooling the reaction vessels 7 and positioned adjacent to each of the reaction vessels of the cuvette wheel 6, and a dispensation device supplying the cooling water to the cooling water holding sections by the time the liquid sample is agitated by the surface acoustic wave elements 18.
