PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing D-lactic acid from glycerol in high efficiency at a low cost by culturing a microorganism capable of producing D-lactic acid under an aerobic condition, thereby solving the problem of conventional method giving insufficient production quantity of D-lactic acid formed from glycerol. SOLUTION: The method for producing D-lactic acid comprises culture of the microorganism active to produce D-lactic acid in a medium containing glycerol as a carbon source under an aerobic condition having a volumetric oxygen-transfer coefficient of ≥0.27 min<SP>-1</SP>.
