PURPOSE: A composition containing porphyrin compound for detecting melamin is provided to simply and quickly detect melamin without water affect. CONSTITUTION: A composition for detecting melamin contains porphyrin compound. The porphyrin compound is 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphyrin covalt(II), 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-carboxylmethyloxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphine, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)21H,23H-porphine, 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-hydroxyphenyl)-21H,23H-porphine, 5,10-,15,20-tetrakis(1-methyl-4-pyridinio)phorpyrin tetra(P-toluenesulfonate) or manganese(III)5,10,15,20-tetra(4-pyridyl)-21H,23H-porphine chloride tetrakis(methochloride). The composition is used to detect melamin contained in a food.
