An augmented reality system (5) enables a user to simulate playing a musical instrument such as a guitar or keyboard. The system (5) comprises visual tracking means, such as a camera or optical sensor, in conjunction with object recognition or tracking software. The visual tracking means detects movement, manipulation or occlusion of the object 1 by the user. Preferably the object 1 is a portion of the users body, or a graphical item carried by the user or displayed on a garment such as a t-shirt 2. The system (5) further comprises response selection means, such as augmented reality software, to determine a response based upon the movement, manipulation or occlusion detected by the tracking means; and output means, which may be visual or audible, to generate an output corresponding to the response and relating to the user's simulated playing of the musical instrument. The users simulated performance may be recorded for subsequent storage, review or playback. |
