Diversity (redundant) communications are based on the reception of two independent images of the same information stream over two channels physically independent. A new method called Best Of Two Transmitted Information (BOTTI) exploits FEC block codes received sequentially from two matrixes of R rows and C columns, plus another row of all CRC codes appended to the C columns one-to-one and further protected by a dedicated error correction code (DECC). According to the method, each FEC block of both signal paths is error corrected. CRC information of both signal paths are error corrected by means of DECC. Best CRC row is selected. Then each of the C columns is divided into S Sub-Columns (SC). Each SC is compound of S words. Q = 2 S Pseudo-Columns (PC) are generated by permuting the S SCs of both the signal paths. For each PC: - CRC is calculated and compared with the best CRC. - A score of 1 is added to each SC belonging to a PC which calculated CRC is different from BEST CRC. - SC with lower score, between corresponding SC belonging to the two signal path, is elected as BEST SC. The best COLUMN is generated with S BEST SCs. The BEST MATRIX is generated with C BEST COLUMN. Optionally forward error correction is performed on the achieved BEST MATRIX. |
