PURPOSE: Control device and method of a linear compressor are provided to prevent the reliability of a system from becoming decreased through the detection of a first inflection point of a phase difference and a second inflection point of a gas spring constant based on the change of the phase difference and the change of the gas spring constant every a given time period. CONSTITUTION: A control device of a linear compressor comprises a phase detection unit(300), a reference phase difference setting unit(400), a phase difference comparison unit(500), an inflection point detecting unit(600), and a control unit(700). The phase detection unit detects the phase difference between the stroke and the compress motor current every a given time period. The reference phase difference setting unit establishes the reference phase difference based on the change of the phase differences. The phase difference comparison unit compares the reference phase difference with the current phase difference every a given time period. The inflection point detecting unit detects the inflection point of the phase difference based on the comparison result. The control unit detects the top dead center based on the inflection point of the phase difference.
