The device i.e. portable telephone (1000), has an antenna (1100) for receiving messages transmitted by external reader (100). A microprocessor implements MIFARE(RTM: NXP Semiconductors) applications i.e. memories, communicating with the entity using same protocol. A computer program generates a preset event on the reception of a particular message or in the event of communication being initialized with the entity. Another computer program detects the event, and selects the application among the applications, where the selected application is chosen independent of the message. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a selection method implemented by an electronic device communicating with external entity and implementing applications communicating with the external entity using same protocol (2) a computer program comprising instructions for executing steps of selection method when the program is executed by a computer (3) a computer-readable recording medium for recording a computer program comprising instructions for executing steps of selection method.
