An outdoor unit for use in a separate type air conditioner which includes an outdoor unit (1) and an indoor unit (20). The outdoor unit comprises: a baseplate (2), a housing having a first air intake window (12a, 12b) (side air intake window) in one of its side walls, a second air intake window (12c) (rear air intake window) formed in the rear wall extending upright from the baseplate, and an air outlet window (11) (front air outlet window) formed in the front wall; a partition board extending upright from the baseplate (2) and portioning for the internal space of the housing into a fan room (7) for accommodating the heat exchanger (5) and a fan (6) for supplying air to the heat exchanger (5); and a machinery room (9) for accommodating the compressor (8). The outdoor unit is characterized in that: the heat exchanger (5) mounted upright on the baseplate (2) extends over the rear air intake window (12c); the partition board (10) is provided in front of the heat exchanger; the partition board (10) is disposed in front cf the heat exchanger (5) by securing a circumferential frame of the partition board (10) on the front end of a circumferential frame of the heat exchanger (5) by screws applied from the rear of the heat exchanger (5).
