The device has two deflection rollers (6, 8), which are arranged parallel to each other. A drive (14) shifts the deflection rollers in opposite axial directions. A sensor detects a position of a foil (2), and pressure rollers (20, 22) change a ratio between a friction of the foil on one of the deflection rollers and a friction of the foil on another one of the deflecting rollers. A control device controls the drive for shifting the deflection rollers in opposite axial directions and controls the pressure rollers based on the position of the foil.
