PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a network load and a read processing load when reading massive documents by distributing read processing between and among a plurality of image reading apparatuses, transmitting read data read by the image reading apparatuses to a transmission destination and coupling the data. SOLUTION: A first image reading apparatus 111 generates first image data by reading a first bundle of documents obtained by dividing a plurality of documents to be read, transmits the first image data to a transmission destination over a network after performing format conversion thereto, and transmits to a second image reading apparatus 121 division information on the first bundle of the plurality of reading target documents read by the first image reading apparatus 111. The second image reading apparatus 121 generates second image data by reading a second bundle of a plurality of documents to be read and transmits the second image data to the transmission destination over the network after performing format conversion thereto while using the division information.
