<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical communication device in which optical transceivers are highly densely mounted on a host device. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the optical communication device, a pluggable optical transceiver 13 is insertably and withdrawably mounted on the host device. The pluggable optical transceiver includes an optical module for optical communication, an optical fiber coupling portion, a component mounting circuit board, and an electrical connector for connecting communication circuits with the host device. A host side electrical connector 15 is disposed such that a direction in which its terminal is disposed is perpendicular to the host substrate 12 which is in parallel with a surface on which the host device is disposed. The pluggable optical transceiver 13 is inserted in a vertical direction perpendicular to the host substrate 12, and an optical transceiver side electrical connector is connected to the host device side electrical connector.
