PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high access speed to a medium such as a disk. SOLUTION: A recording/reproducing apparatus includes a drive unit 21 for reading out data from a first medium, and a drive unit controller 22 for controlling the drive unit 21. Additionally, the apparatus includes a second medium controller 24 for controlling data reading and writing to a second medium 23, capable of storing a data amount equivalent to the data amount recorded in the first medium 1 and has a data read/write speed higher than the first medium 1. Moreover, immediately after the loading operation of the first medium 1, the entire data recorded in the first medium 1 are read out and stored in the second medium 23. When a readout request is input during the data readout operation, a response with respect to the readout request is made.
