PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultrasonic joining method, by which generation of a hole in a to-be-joined member or generation of a crack in a joint portion is significantly prevented. SOLUTION: In the ultrasonic joining method, joint portions are ultrasonically joined to each other by putting a joint portion of a first to-be-joined member and a joint portion of a second to-be-joined member between a horn and an anvil and by vibrating the horn. The ultrasonic joining method includes the steps of: immersing, prior to ultrasonic joining, the joint portion of the first to-be-joined member in the side, with which the horn is brought into contact, and the tip end of the horn into an etching vessel housing an etching solution; and subjecting the joint portion of the first to-be-joined member to ultrasonic etching by vibrating the horn and ultrasonically vibrating the etching solution, to expose a new surface.
