PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a liquid discharge device that discharges a liquid with an accurate desired timing without wasting any of the liquid. SOLUTION: An orifice plate 5 includes an outlet 1 to discharge the liquid supplied to a liquid chamber 3 from a liquid tank, a wall member 7 to form a pond 6 on the atmospheric side of the outlet 1 for retaining the liquid such that the pond 6 covers the outlet 1, and a heater 2 for generating air bubbles to remove the liquid from the pond 6. A pressurizing means pressurizes the liquid in the liquid chamber 3 to retain the liquid in the pond 6 and prevent its discharge through the outlet 1. The heater 2 is electrified at a desired discharge timing to generate air bubbles, remove the liquid covering the outlet 1, and thus discharge liquid drops from the outlet 1.
