PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a navigation device that accurately determines that a position of a vehicle currently traveling is in a predetermined area, thereby improving the determination precision of the position of the own vehicle. SOLUTION: A camera 6 mounted on a vehicle captures of an image of a road surface, and an image processing means 7 extracts a characteristic material on the road surface from the captured image. A classification means 9 classifies whether or not the extracted characteristic material is a specific characteristic material extending toward a side of the vehicle. A storage means 10 stores the classified result of the characteristic material and positional information detected by a positional information detection means 20 when capturing the characteristic material, by correlating them with each other. A determination means 11 determines whether or not there are a plurality of specific characteristic materials at each predetermined interval in a front-rear direction of the vehicle on the basis of the positional information correlated to the specific characteristic materials. When it is determined that there are the plurality of specific characteristics at each predetermined interval, the vehicle determines that the vehicle is traveling in a predetermined area.
