<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus, capable of favorably reducing impact force caused in transferring an image. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes: an intermediate transfer belt 21 supporting a toner image; a transfer unit 50 for transferring a toner image on the intermediate transfer belt 21 to paper PA; a spring 59 elastically supporting the transfer unit 50; and timing rollers 41, 42 for carrying the paper PA toward the transfer unit 50. The transfer unit 50 includes: a secondary transfer roller 51; a driven roller 52; and a belt member 53. The transfer unit 50 is elastically supported to allow the paper PA to move toward the downstream in the carrying direction. When the paper PA collides with a stretch part of the belt member 53, the transfer unit 50 moves toward the downstream in the paper carrying direction. The spring 59 applies elastic force directing to return the transfer unit 50 to a position before the movement to the transfer unit 50 to thereby elastically support the transfer unit 50.
