<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source for optical communication which has a high speed and is improved in long-distance transmission. <P>SOLUTION: The light source for optical communication comprises a semiconductor laser 10 capable of outputting a light wave with a specific wavelength, and an external wavelength filter to which output light from the semiconductor laser 10 is inputted and in which output light intensity is varied in accordance with an input wavelength. The external wavelength filter is configured by cascading first and second wavelength filters having different wavelength periods of power transmissivity and a light wave, that has been frequency-modulated by the semiconductor laser 10, is converted into intensity modulation using the external wavelength filter. The first and second wavelength filters are comprised of two waveguide type optical resonators 15, 16 having different resonance periods of wavelength. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
