<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element capable of highly accurately and easily adjusting the position of a lens, even when the lens is in an installed and fixed state, and to provide a method for adjusting the optical element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The optical element includes: the lens 20; a cylindrical lens holding member 30 holding the lens at one end thereof; and a support member 40 holding the lens holding member, in such a state that it passes through a through hole. In the optical element, the lens holding member and the support member are joined to each other at one end (joined portion A) of the through hole, the inner surface of the through hole except one end is in a non-contact state with the lens holding member (space S), and in such a state that the lens is projected from the other end side opposite to the joined portion of the through hole to the outside of the through hole (projected portion B), the lens holding member is supported by the support member.
