PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fishing reel having a simple structure and enabling efficient winding of a fishing line. SOLUTION: The fishing reel has a spool 14 rotatably assembled to a reel body 12 and winding the fishing line 24, and a winding mechanism 18 placed coaxially with the spool 14. The winding mechanism 18 has a transmission member 44 coaxially fixed through a one-way clutch 40 to a main rotary shaft 30 rotating together with the spool 14. The reel includes a wind-up ring 45 placed coaxially with the transmission member 44, a wind-up string 47 wound on the wind-up ring 45 by fixing an end of the string to the ring, and a spiral spring 46 to rotate the transmission member 44 in a wind-back direction. When the wind-up string 47 is pulled out, the wind-up ring 45 is rotated to integrally rotate the spool 14 and wind the fishing line 24. The spiral spring 46 rotates the wind-up ring 45 in the wind-back direction to wind back the wind-up string 47 on the wind-up ring 45 without applying a torque to the spool 14 by the one-way clutch 40.
