PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decoding apparatus with high efficiency in memory access in trace back of Viterbi decoding and capable of executing decoding at high speed. SOLUTION: The decoding apparatus includes a status register, a memory access unit that selects and reads partial data of survival path data in accordance with the content of the status register for each of a plurality of times from a target time to a predetermined preceding time from a memory that stores the survival path data for all the times, and a calculation unit that selects one bit from the partial data of the last time of the plurality of times in accordance with the content of the status register and at the same time, in bit selection processing to select one bit from the partial data of an arbitrary time that is not the last time of the plurality of times, selecting a bit in accordance with the partial data of one or more times from a time next an arbitrary time to the last time and the contents of the status register.
